Kia ora koutou !
Wahoo! Remember to book your interview slot for week 10.
We have lots of wonderful scientific moments in the junior school. Our wee scientists are learning to use their 5 senses to make observations of objects and the world around them.
Please remember to check the blog for our newsletter and photographic journey of learning. What a joy to see the delight in discovery and wonder on the faces of our tamariki as they make predictions about different things. http://rnlsjunior123.blogspot.co.nz
We were blessed to have the Court Theatre come and perform a show to celebrate Matariki, Maori New Year.
Haylie wrote: We saw a show of Matariki. There were giant puppets to be the seven stars. The puppets had plaited hair. They had long dresses. They had green, blue and pink ones. Their faces were wooden. There were actors and the actors were very silly!

We are looking forward to having our Y10 buddies come and work with us next week. Thank you parents for your support with PMP, helping in classrooms, and providing opportunities for daily reading, writing and counting practise. You rock!

Kia ora koutou !
The Court Theatre perform a show about Matariki for us on Monday. As we have completed our artworks and learned more about this celebration of the Maori New Year, we have become keen observers of the night sky. Many children noticed the new moon recently.
Last week we practised two different types of jump, Star Jumps and Sky jumps with our North Canterbury Coaches, Lisa and Logan.
We celebrated Ee week with lots of Elmer stories, made our own patchwork elephant (check out our blog) , and learnt two poems about elephants too.
As we love to be Room 1 and 2 Scientists, we eggsperimentedinvestigating what happened to a hard boiled egg that was immersed in vinegar. The tamariki observed keenly and made predictions. True learning is evident when children link their prior knowledge to explain their thinking e.g. I think the egg will turn red because its an acid.We finished the week by lighting a candle and then observing as a hard boiled egg got sucked into a bottle (much trickier to get it out than in).
Mr Single got out the boomwhackers and introduced us to ostinato - repeated rhythm. We made up our own patterns and had a blast at our Music sessions.

We have Open Day this Tuesday 14th June. Please encourage your friends to come and check out all the wonderful learning opportunities at our cool school.
The tamariki have been creating some simply stunning pieces of art recently. Please come and admire these as the tamariki have put in a lot of effort!

Welcome back from your long weekend! We welcome Freya and Siena to school today! Very exciting to see our whanau grow in number and knowledge too!
Thank you for supporting the World Vision Mufti Day last week. Every little bit helps!
We had Constable Ken come and talk to us about road safety. Please be diligent about using the road crossings when crossing the road at school—Southbrook and Denchs Roads are horrendously busy (26,000 vehicles every day) and we do not want any tragedies.
Please remember to check out the following link: http://rnlsjunior123.blogspot.co.nz as this blog is regularly updated with wonderful photos of your child’s learning journey.
Our Year 10 maths buddies came to help us practise our time telling skills. This is a special learning opportunity that is special to learning in an Area School. We read o’clock and half past, wrote times down, read and wrote numbers and problem-solved.

Wednesday 8th June is Support Staff Day—administration staff , grounds/property staff / teacher’s angels (Teacher Aides) - please thank them for what they do whenever you see them, not just on the 8th please!

PMP is going very well with a wonderful group of parent helpers running the activities. Last week we used the scooter boards, practised doing the caterpillar walk, and learnt to write up, down and under and put these words into sentences.
We welcome Abigail who started school in Ruma Rua last week and we also welcome Josh to Ruma Tahi this week. Very soon we will also have Freya, Siena and Angel joining our RumaTahi whanau.
Constable Ken will come and speak to us about road safety this week. Yay! We must always remember to cross the road at the crossing when coming to and from school.
Our Year 10 Maths Buddies are coming to practise our clock reading skills as we have been leaning how to read o’clock and half-past on the clocks. He aha te taima? What is the time?
